Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Guide Packagaing, Tool & Device projects ensuring :
Appropriate product design (design-for-manufacture)
Selection of appropriate forming processes, tooling etc.
Efficient layout of assembly operations
Appropriate production location
Support for the production startup
Serve as Technical Project Leader (=Project Manager) for some key projects :
Preparation of COGS financials and Capex proposals for NPD projects.
Taking full responsibility for delivery of the project on-time, in budget and to the agreed Quality and COGS.
Coordinate between R&D, Global Procurement, GQA, Supply and the different engineering and operations teams on a global basis to facilitate :
Exploitation of any cross-company synergies; for example in purchasing of equipment & supplier agreements.
Definition and transfer of best practices.
Work in partnership with international Multifunctional teams such as Purchasing, Marketing and External Manufacturing to ensure exploitation of new production methods and technologies. Ensure that our suppliers for Injection Moulding and other forming technologies are using the most cost effective production methods.
Build a team of engineers in Dongguan ensuring their project delivery and ongoing development (it is assumed that this group will provide resources for projects based in EU and USA via long-term secondments). This team is currently composed 4 people by end 2006.

Position Profile:
Technical and manufacturing management.
Project management.
Process equipment and technology expertise with a deep appreciation of Injection Moulding and Material forming technology.
Management of relationships with international third parties (and specifically equipment, RM and OEM suppliers); understand the business objective and know how to deal with different people.
Good background knowledge of packaging technology
Detailed knowledge of tool-making and the key cost drivers in tool design.
Success of the role will be measured by the successful production start up of NPD projects and by successful implementation of major cost reduction projects based on use of novel technology.

Managerial Expertise/Personal Characteristics:
Fully bilingual Cantonese / English. Other languages an advantage.
Outstanding engineering & industrial design ability
10+ years experience in industry, at least 5 in Engineering position.
Track record of delivery, goal oriented, sets clear priorities and meets deadlines.
Good negotiating skills, able to align the different interests of internal parties R&D Category, Marketing, Procurement and External Manufacturers.
Creative and positive attitude, overcomes obstacles, good at problem solving.
Prepared to get involved, learn and apply knowledge and skills.
Accurate, understands data, facts and figures; is able to distil complex data into useful information and conclusions.
Strong communication and persuasion skills, both written and oral in English. Any other languages advantageous but not essential.
Combines a hands-on approach with a strategic vision.
Works effectively in multifunctional teams, promotes team effort, builds relationships, gets buy-in from colleagues.
Has a good sense of humour, able to put matters in perspective, prepared to acknowledge own mistakes and shortcomings and ensure that he/she and others learn from them.
Flexible. Capable of working completely independently, making independent decisions and of being trusted to do the right thing for RB.
